The Basics

We have created a service called Explorer HQ and would love for you and every human you know to use it. It can be found at MissionExplore.Net where you will also find links to other lovely Explorer HQ things like our award-winning children's books and app. Explorer HQ has been created by our friendly company, Explorer HQ.

Our service, for individual explorers, is free.

When planning and attempting missions (activities or challenges) you find on Explorer HQ always follow our advice and use your common sense to ensure you don't come to any harm.

Game play and badges

Badges: Complete missions and you can collect badges. Some badges are easier to win than others.

Currents: We reward active explorers with Currents. The more you use the more Currents you will collect. We give more Currents for doing some things and less for doing others.

Additional terms may apply to certain Missions or badges.

House rules

Be friendly, safe and fair.

It's against our rules and you may be suspended if you post:

  • Anything mean.
  • Cheats and answers.
  • Content without permission from the owner.
  • Suggestions that could lead to injury, damage or other harm.
  • Code which may harm our service.

Disclaimer warning

Always take care when out exploring and do not take any unnecessary risks. As with all activities in life all the missions involve some level of benefit and risk to your health. Attempting any physical activity can lead to physical injury or, in extreme cases, death. You are responsible for taking precautions as necessary to protect yourself, fellow users, the community and environment in which you are exploring. Don't be stupid. If you can't remove or reduce a risk to a reasonably safe level don't attempt the mission. Explorer HQ and our Partners assume no responsibility for the content of the Platform, for what users do or how they use the Platform, or for any harm (including death) that occurs in connection with using the Platform including the missions that appear on it. We cannot and do not visit every location where missions appear and so do not guarantee access to or safety of the locations and routes to where missions are found. Users attempt, complete and report on missions at their own risk.

For some customers an unlimited number of Missions may be allowed within an agreed geographical area and period of time. For the purposes of premium missions and badges "Lifetime" agreements refer to the lifetime of the Explorer HQ website. As long as the Explorer HQ website is live any services bought under Lifetime plans will also be live, may this be 1 or 100 years.

Premium Account holders are solely and entirely responsible for all content that is published on Explorer HQ. While we provide a risk-benefit assessment tool to use when creating missions, you should carry out your own safety checks, risk assessments and are fully insured. To be clear we will accept no liability for content which you have created. We recommend that you make clear editorial roles within your team and consider having a single person who is responsible for publishing any content live.

We welcome and encourage partnership working and will allow jointly branded projects that use a single Premium Service account. Premium Service Account holders may not create and publish content or Missions for or on the behalf of other brands or organisations without written permission from Explorer HQ.

All Content and Missions must adhere to the Mission creation guidelines (including but not limited to guidance on branding, locations, safety and writing styles) and Explorer HQ reserves the right to refuse publication or to remove contributions which do not meet the correct standard. We reserve the right to not explain why we approve or remove a Mission or other content from the Platform, but aim to give reasons and support partners in creating approvable Missions.

Mission creation guidelines:

  1. All missions must be risk assessed. Site visits may be needed for mapped/located missions.
  2. Only charities and public sector organisations may be branded on missions and user accounts. Commercial product placement and advertising is not allowed. In special circumstances joint projects and branding between commercial and charity or public sector organisations may be allowed.
  3. Always follow the Responsibilities of Contributors and Visitors sections above.
  4. Your missions should create an experience for players, inspire them, liberate curiosity, facilitate self-actualisation, occupy players, be educationally appropriate, free and fun as much as is possible.
  5. Only missions set to 'live' can be seen by visitors.
  6. Located missions must be mapped as precisely as possible (zoom into the map as far as you can) and in reasonably safe and appropriate locations.
  7. Mission activities must be appropriate for young children in relation to the suggested location.
  8. It is best practice to visit locations where missions are located. If the location has not been visited this must clearly be communicated to the user and appropriate warnings associated with the activity must be stated. If a location is not physically visited you must visually identify the location using appropriate mapping and imagery to ensure that it is accessible, legal and not in a dangerous location. If in doubt, don't include it.
  9. The same mission may not be 'over' duplicated in such a way that it will reduce user experience. For example, you may not locate the same mission type in every square kilometre across an area. If in doubt, please contact us with any questions.
  10. Any badges or prizes must be approved by Explorer HQ. Premium account holders that offer prizes are solely responsible for their management and fulfilment.
  11. It must be possible to evidence any mission having been completed through a photograph.
